MIDDLE SCHOOL CHOIR:

Date for Performance: January 17, 2009 at Burlington High School

September, 2008

Dear Middle School Vocal Music Teachers,

I hope you are having an enjoyable start to the new year!  Time flies so fast over the summer and during the year and here we are again making plans for our middle school students to participate in their honors groups in January of 2009.  We are so blessed by being able to teach a subject that we love and are passionate about.  I hope your year is going great!

The following is information for the 2009 KMEA Middle School Honors Choir to be held at Burlington High School on Saturday, January 17, 2009.

Clinician    Darla Strecker, vocal music instructor at Coffeyville Community College will be our guest clinician.  Many of you know Darla from working with her on senior high events or as her choirs have performed in your schools.  Darla does a wonderful job of teaching, but more than that, she truly cares for her students.  Many of my students have continued their education at CCC and I know that she is like a “mother hen” – in a good way – of keeping up with her students, checking on them outside of class and doing everything she can to help them be successful.  She will bring a lot of enthusiasm and expertise to our event this year!

Darla has requested that each student bring a black folder for the performance.

Who Can Attend?    All participating schools in the Southeast District are invited to send 6 students from grade 7-8 in the following voices:  2 sopranos, 2 altos, 2 baritones.

If you have boys that specifically sing tenor or bass, please let me know the distinction.  Most of the music will be 3-part.  You may nominate alternates, but there is no guarantee placement of the alternates.  The students are to be auditioned/selected by you, the director.  Please keep in mind that this is an “Honors Choir”.  This experience is not to teach the students the music, but is intended to be a quality experience for your advanced students.  It is very important that the students know the music before they arrive for

Rehearsals and the concert.  Please have your names to me by November 14, 2008.

Fees  Fees are $4.00 per student this year.  It is appreciated if you send your fees in advance.  If you are unable to send fees in advance, then fees are expected at the time of registration on January 12.  Make the checks payable to:  KMEA Southeast District.  Mail the check ahead of time to:  Gary McCarty.  (Fees Payment Form)

Choral Selections:  The list of selections will be listed online by September 15.
