Dear Orchestra Colleagues:

Our SE District KMEA Mass Orchestra performance will be held at Chanute High School, Saturday, November 8, 2008.  Clinician for the day is.  Rebecca Meis, Olathe.  All high school string players in the district are invited to rehearse and perform with the group.  No audition is necessary.  Rehearsals will begin at 8:30 AM in the gymnasium.  Be sure your cello and string bass players have floor spots.  Everyone will need to bring a folding music stand.  Concert time will be announced on the website.  Concert attire is black & white.  Ladies may wear all black or a black skirt & white blouse.  Gentlemen, please wear dark pants and a white shirt.  Sport coats are suggested but not required.  Please, no casual clothes for this concert!  Students will have time to change clothes prior to the concert.

Music for the concert is as follows:

“Impravada”  David Shaffer,   Barnhouse Archive Edition

“American Landscape”  Soon Hee Newbold,  FJH Music

“As Summer Was Just Beginning”  Larry Daehn,  Daehn Publications

“Sketches For Strings”  Rodney S. Miller,  Highland Etling

Music has been mailed.  Anyone wanting parts that has not received them may contact me.  Please check the website for participation fees.

During our orchestra rehearsal time, students will be pulled to audition for the select Chamber Orchestra that will perform on the December 6 Mini-Convention at Labette HS.  This is the qualifying event to audition for the State KMEA Festival Orchestra.  I will need all string teachers to help judge the auditions.  Please send your roster of names alphabetized by sections, to me by October 10.

Director for the December 6th group is Kirt Mosier.  Music & audition materials have not yet been selected.

Any string player wanting to audition for the district choir will be pulled from the rehearsal as a group for warm-up and auditions.  Please stress that they are to be at our rehearsal on time, and are not to leave on their own.  Students may also audition for the district band.  Please let me know who you are so we can arrange for your band audition time.

Contact me if you have questions!

Thanks,

Jane Williams
